Pilot and York Theatre Royal unite for Beautiful Thing

York Theatre Royal and Pilot Theatre Company join forces this month to produce the heart warming urban fairy tale, Beautiful Thing by Jonathan Harvey, which runs in The Studio from 5-28 June.
Pilot's Artistic Director Marcus Romer directs the production. His previous credits include the critically acclaimed Lord of the Flies, Rumblefish and Road.

Jonathan Harvey won the 1987 Girobank Young Writer of the Year Award for his play The Cherry Blossom, at the Liverpool Playhouse. His other writing includes: Beautiful Thing, which won the John Whiting Award in 1994; Babies, which won The George Devine Award in 1993, and the popular hit television comedy, Gimme, Gimme, Gimme.

Marcus Romer - Director Previous directing credits for Marcus include: Road, Mirad- A Boy From Bosnia, Pilot at York Theatre Royal, Lord of the Flies and Rumble Fish, Pilot at York Theatre Royal and tours. Marcus has also worked as director with a wide variety of companies, including: the Lyric, Hammersmith; Swan Theatre, Worcester; West Yorkshire Playhouse and Red Ladder.

Chad Gomez - Ste Theatre credits include: Romeo and Juliet, Bedlam Theatre, Edinburgh; American Blues, Greenwich Playhouse; and TIE work for Crag Rats and Quantum Theatre.

Rachid Sabitri - Jamie Theatre credits include Mercutio in the West End Musical of Romeo and Juliet; and Alistair Beaton's new play Celebrity Island featuring Sian Thomas.

Rhea Bailey - Leah Born in Leeds, Rhea's theatre credits include: Peter Pan and Off Camera West Yorkshire Playhouse. Television credits include: Chapel Town Stories; Children's Ward; and Cold Feet.

Andrina Carroll - Sandra Theatre credits include: Educating Rita; A Midsummer Night's Dream York Theatre Royal; Spring and Port Wine and The Nutcracker, West Yorkshire Playhouse and September in the Rain, Hull Truck. Television work includes: Fat Friends; Peak Practice and Casualty.

Marcello Walton - Tony Theatre credits include Jim/Scobie, Abandonment, York Theatre Royal; A Chorus Of Disapproval, Bristol Old Vic; The Pirates of Penzance, West Yorkshire Playhouse and A Clockwork Orange, Northern Stage. Film credits include: Intimacy.

The play was revived and toured in 1994, ending with a run at the Donmar Warehouse, London. Sandra was played by Amelda Brown, Ste by Shaun Dingwall and Tony by Richard Bonneville. All other credits as above.

In September 1994, the play opened in the West End at the Duke of York's Theatre, with the following cast:
